Navarro, Norton give Police winning start
Jeselle Navarro and Giselle Norton combined for 31 goals to lead defending champions Police to a 36-29 win over Las Lomas in the Championship Division of the 28th edition of the Courts All Sectors Netball League at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya on Thursday night.
Navarro tallied 18 goals from 25 attempts, and Norton added 13 from 19, while Kaysha Duncan, chipped in with five from ten attempts for the winners who led 10-8 at the first-quarter stop before they were pulled back to 18-18 at the half-time whistle, only to open a 26-23 third quarter cushion.
On the other hand, Raquel Russell had a team-high 20 goals from 35 attempts and Joycelyn Marcelle added nine from 22 attempts in the loss.
At the top of the table, however is Bermudez with a 2-0 record after a 34-31 cooling of winless Fire Service (0-2) led by Makeda De Freitas’ 24 goals from 31 attempts.
The pair of Indra Anderson and Onika Thomas contributed nine and one goal for Bermudez from ten and one attempt respectively for Bermudez, 12-10, 19-15 and 27-23 leaders at the end of the first three periods.
Camiesha Leslie had a topscore of 22 goals from 39 attempts for Fire Service with Daniella Hall and Pearl St John adding seven and two goals, respectively.
