Guaya United remains firmly bolted to the top of the T&T Super League despite drawing its game against Police over the weekend. Guaya would feel it squandered a chance to pull away at the top after Carlon Hughes scored two goals in two minutes in the first half. He opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and doubled his side’s lead in the 25th. Hughes continues to be the league’s leading goal scorer, now with 17 goals to his name. The visitors held that advantage through to the second half.

It was only in the 65th minute, Jason Boodram pulled a goal back for the officers. It made for an interesting end to the game. Just as Guaya seemed on course for a narrow victory, Colin Williams struck in the 92nd minute to ensure Police shared the spoils.

Meanwhile, in the east, FC Santa Rosa failed to capitalise on Guaya United dropping points. Playing against Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC), there were two early goals in this match. Shabaka Mahluli gave QPCC the lead in only the seventh minute. However, the lead lasted only 12 minutes before Rashad Griffith equalised for FC Santa Rosa.

There was also interest in Defence Force’s trip to UTT where both teams are in a top five tussle. UTT was two goals up in the first half-hour courtesy Ishmael Daniel (16’) and Cyrano Glen (30’). Dexter Thornhill pulled a goal back for the army in the 63rd minute but UTT held on for a 2-1 victory.

With the top two teams getting a point each, it means Guaya United is on top with 33 points while FC Santa Rosa is four points behind in second. QPCC is third on the table with 24 points while Defence Force and UTT are both on 23 points each to round off the top five.
