Board member: Don’t blame JDW/TTFA for this one
“Don’t blame the TTFA or president David John-Williams for the loss of the Italian coach Carolina Morace and her staff, as there seems to be more sides to the story, one T&T Football Association board member said yesterday.
The coaches, which include Italians Carolina Morace, Elisabetta Bavagnoli and English Nicola Williams, terminated their contracts by just cause, citing unpaid wages for the past three and a half months. But the board member said he was concerned by newspaper reports yesterday that portrayed the embattled football association as being at fault when he is aware of numerous attempts made by John-Williams to pay the overseas coaches for the three and a half-month period they were alleged to have not been paid. The board member, who spoke on condition of anonymity said that there was an agreement that only John-Williams could speak on the matter, because it was gaining the attention of the courts.
Contacted yesterday John-Williams again said he had no comment on the matter and was in the process of working with his attorneys to draft out a response to the media in the coming days.
The TTFA board member said he believed that there was more of a rift among the foreign coaches which was evident by one of its coaches- Manuela Tessa opting to leave the staff early in her contract. “I know for a fact that the coaches were being paid” a local coach attached to the team explained. She pointed out that as far as she was concerned , the TTFA was honouring its contractual agreements.
