Why not give out old HDC houses?

I heard the new Minister of Housing and Prime Minister say that every person will have a home. I hope that is true and I hope he will use his good office to give homes to people that applied over 30 years and still waiting.

It is a shame that some people that applied for homes over 30 years have reached the age for pension and never got a home. I have a relative that applied for a house when she was 29 years old, now she is 61 and still waiting and to me that is ridiculous. She is living at the same place—her parents’ house.

Why not give out the houses that were built by the late Prime Minister Patrick Manning administration? The PP Government did not give them out, neither did this present Government, they are just there deteriorating. It seems like a pattern, whatever the PP Government put or build in the country for the benefit of the citizens the PNM government refuse to use it, and whatever the PNM government put in place for the benefit of the citizens the PP government also refuse to use it and that is preposterous and childish by the both parties—put country first.

The former Minister of Housing said that it will cost the Government $18 million to repair the houses before they can be given out. To me that is foolish. I hope that this present Minister of Housing will let good sense prevail and give out those houses to the recipients as they are, and let them do their own repairs, and I am sure that it will save the country some money. Too many houses are unoccupied and too much money has been wasted. Give the houses out to those people who have been waiting for over 30 years. Put things in place with the banks, or the mortgage company so that they will able to get soft loans. Come on Mr Minister of Housing, time to make these people happy.
