I was merely correcting records
I note in your editorial of May 14, 2018 that you have asked why, in my winding up to the debate on the mid-year review in the wee hours of last Friday morning, I spoke about a number of allegedly independent persons who routinely make negative comments about the current PNM Government. You may not be aware, but for your information, the MP for Princes Town initiated the process without any prompting from our side, when he named these persons in his contribution to the debate as having the same opinion as the UNC on the mid-year review and the performance of the Government and astonishingly claimed that they were all independent commentators. I was simply correcting the record, since none of these people, who include former COP senators, former UNC MPs and UNC Senators, and aspiring UNC candidates, are independent or unbiased in their commentary, but they portray themselves as neutral and impartial.
It’s a strange thing in Trinidad and Tobago that if a person is even remotely associated with the PNM in any way, however tangential and short lived such an association may be, they are politically striped for life and deemed to be unfit to speak objectively on any matter.
Whereas persons who openly belong to other political parties, or have contested elections against the PNM for other political parties, or served as MPs in opposition to the PNM, or have sat in other governments, are somehow deemed to be free from all political prejudice and portrayed as having no bias whatsoever.
