The role of the law in our society is to keep order, to assure fair treatment, and to protect the disadvantaged. Failure to enforce the law and the appeasement of law-break- ers are sure ways to reverse the gains of civilisation, and take this country back to the bush.

Now that the smoke has cleared, I think it’s an appropriate time for Minister of National Security John Sandy to put out a clear statement on the purchase and use of fireworks. For too long we have hear the problems with the elderly and animals and the inconsiderate use of fireworks.

This is in response to Minister of Tourism Rupert Griffith summoning of Tobago’s tourism officials and stakeholders for a meeting in his office to discuss Tobago’s lack of tourism. Tobago’s tourism officials have demonstrated nothing but gross incompetence for too long.
